Books...
I just finished reading 'The Idiot' by Dostoesvsky. I found it remarkably depressing, but I enjoyed it all the same. It's basically taking someone who's totally innocent and good and showing what the world does with that kind of a person. I cringed the whole way. The song "State of the Union" by David Ford reminds me a lot of the main character.
Now I'm working my way through 'Mrs. Dalloway', a tough piece that my AP class assigned, which has put my other reading, the childrens' fantasy book 'Inkdeath' on hold.
I'm excited to move along from both of them to read the book 'Grendel', by John Gardiner, which is an existentialist novel about the life of the monstrous villain from Beowulf. I have a fascination with the subject because Grendel was a descendant of Cain, who's children is a key character in the subplot of a fantasy novel I've been working on. Gardner's writing has a nice, crunchy, sarcastic edge.
I must be making myself sound like some sort of a geek right now. Ah well. I am. I work in a bookstore. It's pretty much what I do. (Other than play the part of old women, insane birds-ladies and misbehaving fairies with my friend, Kale Allerion.)
