As MariAnne followed the human slayer, she suddenly realized she was shaking like a leaf and had probably been shaking the entire time.
I could have died, she realized. Or worse.
"Thank you," she whispered to the slayer, twirling a strand of her red, curly hair nervously. This man was probably fuming, she thought - angry for having to stick by the side of such a stupid, girl blinded by her own righteous indignation. "I don't know what I was thinking." She chuckled unhappily. "My own idiocy amazes me sometimes."
