David’s playlists:
Anyone who's had the misfortune of interacting with David has become aware of this much; he's not a friendly person. Barely even a good person, actually. He's actually kind of a jerk. There are -- somewhere-- redeeming qualities but you'd be pretty hard-pressed to find them. He's angry about life and he knows most of the reasons are his fault. This pretty much reflects it here.
To Be Like Me - Songs About the Anti-hero.
1.) The Noose -- Perfect Circle >>> Basically saying “Yeah, it’s all well and good that you’re trying to save the world, but you have to be held accountable for the lives you’ve ruined in the process.”
Defining line:
“And I’m more than just a little curious/
how you plan to go about making your amends/
to the dead.”
2.) State of the Union -- David Ford >>> Just regarding his life in general. It’s been a long, messed up attempt and most of the problems can’t be blamed on anyone but himself. A bit like he was dead on arrival.
Defining Line:
“Sweet dreams all met with derision/
this train was armed for collision/
it’s a shame it’s a shame it’s a shame”
3.) Cold Water -- Damien Rice >>> His position in the world again. Just barely treading water. Eats, drinks, sleeps, drinks, slays, drinks, shoots up parties, passes out and then does it all over again.
Defining Line:
“Cold, cold water surrounds me now/
and all I have is your hand/
Lord can you hear me now?/
Lord can you hear me now?/
Lord can you hear me now?/
Or am I lost?”
4.) Laughing Aloud -- David Ford >>> Mostly about life in New Haven and as a slayer. Being jaded and worn out and wary of the world.
Defining Line:
“Eight weeks in the city/
And you've never looked so pale/
They say the pure of heart don't stand a chance/
And you'd better learn to swim/
'Cos there will be rainy days”
5.) My Will be a Dead Man -- Project 86 >>> A great song for driving around with an attitude, one of David’s unofficial hobbies. The song’s about giving up your will for the greater cause.
6.) Tubthumping -- Chumbawumba>>> Oh come on? What song could be better for a drunk who likes to get in fights? None, that’s what.
Defining Line:
“He drinks a whisky drink/
he drinks a lager drink/
he drinks a cider drink/
he sings the songs that remind him of the good times/
he sings the songs that remind him of the better times”
7.) I am a Rock -- Simon and Garfunkel>>> Again regarding his less than friendly, utterly devoid of social-skills, wouldn’t know a joke if it slapped him in the face kind of attitude. He’s angry and bitter about life and takes no special pains to hide this from others.
Defining Line:
“Don’t talk of love/
no I’ve heard the word before/
it’s sleeping in my memories/
hiding in my room/
safe within my womb/
I touch no one and no one touches me”
8.) Bouncing off the Walls -- Sugarcult>>> About his party-life, particularly the drugging, and the vertigo it puts him in.
Defining Line:
“Momma and daddy have the best cocaine/
Ritalin’s never gonna be the same/
twenty four hours on an empty brain/
I got my finger on the trigger and you’re in my way”
9.) Sick Cycle Carousel -- Lifehouse>>> More meditation on the dreary path David cut and chose for himself.
Defining Line:
“If shame had a face then I think it would kind of look like mine/
if it had a home would it be my eyes/
would you believe me if I said I’m tired of this?/
Well here we go now one more time/
Cause I tried to climb your steps/
I tried to chase you down/
I tried to see how low I could get down to the ground/”
11.) Behind Blue Eyes -- The Who
12.) Will I Loose My Dignity? -- Rent >>> Not at all a style of music I’d attribute to him, but the song is one that a role play partner of mine attributed to him after he got the news of his ‘condition’ due to his lifestyle. She made a lovely video to the song about he and two other characters in similar life-changing situations.
13.) Womanizer -- Brittany Spears>>> No, I'm not joking. Among the drinking, the drugging and the killing, David's also not a very faithful person. He's a skirt chaser.
