As Strike rises to leave, the coyotes raise up into a sitting position. He goes around touching noses with each of them before following after you.

Weird. You knew coyotes were pack animals, but worgs aren't. Its usually only a mating pair and whatever offspring they may have.

As you head off to the north - *rolling: you're a little west of north, but not enough to make a difference* - you find its pretty slow and steady going. Nothing of interest really, except for a red squirrel that spends the better part of five minutes tossing pine cones at you. Apparently he doesn't want you near his tree, because as soon as you leave the one area he stops the barrage and shuts up. Bad aim anyways, didn't actually hit you. You reach the shore of the vile river Serpent (close) after little more than an hour, and it looks about the same here as it did last time. That nasty smell, kind of a green film along the slower flowing edges, and a large amount of emptiness on either shore.

Looking east and west you see more of the same. You think it narrows a little off to the east, but that might just be a bend in the river. Hard to tell. Heck, its hard to tell what you're supposed to be looking for, either.

Forgot to level you up a while back . . . when you beat those two hobs you got level 2, but I cant find anything in any of the posts to say that we did that for you. hehe oops.

So, uhmmm . . . yea. you're at 131 exp, and level 2 was at 100. Your items include Fang, a claw type thing on your swordarm, two javelins, some lamp oil, 11 gold, 6 silvers, and 8 coppers. There's the two skulls, so far no bonus from them . . . and no I won't tell you what they do once they actually start granting bonuses hehe. alrite. Lets see how much I can do from memory.

HPs increase by . . . 5. base attack goes to +1, you get woodland stride, and your spells must change too but I dont know by what. Gotta dig out my book but I'm too lazy to do so right now. Yea, thats about it for now, figure out your skills I guess.

((OOC: Ok my shinny new 3.5 manual says..
0 lvl - 4 perday
1st lvl - 3 (2 + 1 bonus) perday
so my choices are:
0: detect magic
create water
light
purify food and drink
1: entangle
produce flame
speak with animals
Oh and if we are actualy doing 3rd ed.. I'll have to wait till the 8th to get that players guide...
Heh that skull coment actualy made me remember something, in the new book,Frostburn, there is a feat for makeing a skull charm, basicaly it lets you turn a skull into a charm you break to cast a spell(targeted onto the breaker) interesting idea really, great for quick buff spells, traps, or getting stupid people to kill themselves. Toobad it costs mony and XP to make one like always..))
((oh and surpent.. that was my next guess.. just thought that was the other one.. or was that one the snake? Ohwell...))

Feston stood therelooking down the banks of the river.
"Hmmm now what to do? What do you think?"
*looks to Strike*
"If anything what we are looking for is on the other side.. that meanswe would have to cross."
*looks to the eastern bank.*
"Well... a river gets swifter the closer to its source... but with this one its poisoness all the way.. so you would want to cross as soon as posible... that brings the question, if one were to cross do you cross where is is swifter but closer to the otherside, or where the water is less violent but there is a bit longer to ford... I say we go upstream, so lets go, as long as there are no rapids to sweep into a boat or raft we should be fine, we'll just reach the other side a bit down stream is all... that is if we make it..."
((OOC: heh heh, great stuff you learn in wild life managment, in this case managing a wetland enviroment ^_^))

(OOC: sure, 3.5 isn't that much different. I can work with that. and yes the other one IS the snake.)

You remember the fact that your skin would melt off after about 5 seconds in the river, so you're going to have to learn to fly or build a bridge.

And I could've sword you had the 3rd manual, because your character is almost identical to the one thats the level 1 outline druid from the book, down to the claw shield (though in the book its a deers antler strapped to the shield)

((OOC: Oh I have the book, its just in my college dorm room. I bought the 3.5 edition over break. I'm still at my parents house but go back to school on sunday. Oh and the picture is in both of them but its not what inspired me. ))

Feston would continue on up stream looking for a part of the river where the river bed got the narrowist but the current was still not too fast. He was also looking for a portion where the plants were the largest of closest to the river.

It takes you nearly an hour to find what you're looking for. Its quite a narrow part of the river, because of a little bit of luck in the geography. At one point where there's a pretty decent bend in the river, along the far bank a boulder juts out a little further still into the water. Still, you're looking at at least twenty feet across. The forest behind you offers little in the way of assistance, its got to be a good thirty feet to the nearest tree from this point of the bank, and you're not seeing any trees less than the standard two hundred foot high ones. *rolling: success* What you're led to believe by the signs is the river spits and sizzles whenever it rains, and the toxic steam kills any branches that hang in the direction of the river. Its not as remarkable on the far bank, but its exposing its southern face to the sun. You'll have less trouble getting back across, but that's not exactly an issue right now.

Hunger's more important to you. Its got to be closing in on noon, and you had an early start. Not to mention a late night, though thats less of a concern since you're damn near nocturnal at the best of times. Its the mornings that are ugly.

((OOC: Yeah I know that. I checked that with the bonus spells chart it said I only got one extra level 1 spell. As I dont ever remember haveing that many spell slots I am guessing you are just adding the mod as the number of bonus spells? Not really complaining if I do get that many spells but thought I would point it out.))

Feston stood there a moment thinking over the problem of haveing to cross the river then looked back at the forest.
"Well... I think we can do what we need to here... but we might as well get something to eat.. wont get much done one an empty stomach. I'd hate to put this off but I'd also hate to cut into any rations just yet..."
He looked to his companion.
"Still.. I already am getting hungry and you might be too... alright, we'll hunt but if we don't catch anything within my best estimate of about two hours, we'll just have to use rations then find our way back. Who knows I might find something to help us cross while we hunt! Alright! Lets do it!"
With that he starts leading back into the forest hunting for any portential prey.

((You know I realized druids have a ton of niffty tricks available to them for crossing a river and bridge building... the idea I have been playing with right now has involved a javalin, rope, a makeshift raft of some sort, and spells. You use the javalin to get a rope across the river and into a tree, perferably with smaller plants near it because then you cast entagle to try and snage it, makeing it more secure. Next you stand on the little raft and hold onto the rope, make sure you can brace yourself on the raft so it doesnt get away. As the current takes you down streem you will move in an arc toward the opposite bank.
There is also the little trick of useing summon nature's ally with a speak with animals spell. With alot of patience and a bit of finese one might actualy get an animal or two to be able to tie a Knot, you would have to walk them through it... course it would also only be a simple one, like what I use to tie my shoes...
There is also just cutting down a tree, but that would be hard with this size of tree.
My problem right now is mostly a lack of suplies. for a raft I might be able to use a slab of ))

Okay, so . . . massive amounts of rolls.

wilderness lore: pass
track: (without feat) fail
alertness: fail

secret rolls: 2/4

So . . . You're winding your way through the forest, zig zagging this way and that. Strike is halfway leading you, nose to the ground. After about . . . lets say 40 minutes, you find a game trail. Picking a random direction along the path, you head off in search of something tasty.

you go for about another ten minutes or so, Strike picking up the speed a little now that the smells have become more interesting. You're halfheartedly looking this way and that when you see a bunch of little spears flying through the air at you. With barely enough time to flinch, one lodges in your shoulder and the other sinks into your thigh, just above your right knee. Strike lifts his head as you yelp in pain, he's about fifteen feet ahead of you. (-6)
