Lightbulb Nostalgia is a fickle mistress.

I remember, back in the day how amazing this website was, full of good story-lines, and generally smart, interesting people. I'm glad to see nothing has changed, except for the smaller number of members, and lack of frequent posts. But those are only tiny issues i have, and in the "grand scheme" of things, it's great to be back, i know i'm not the only one that feels a sense of belonging in this place, "one big happy family" really is the perfect title for the newcomer's thread. some might mock me for this but, i feel strangely giddy seeing my character's name on the bottom of the "online users" list, this place feels like an escape, from the harsh realities of reality (ha) where i can be who i want, where i want, when i want, however i want, etc.

given of course that i don't upset the mods, or pk's (scary)

sigh.......well that's the end of my rant, i know at least 2.5 of you will agree, that this place is....special, different, and amazing.

Heh, I can relate. I've been here 7 years (at least). The freinds i've made here (most of which have sadly moved on) are numerous and would make quite a list, and while i don't post as much (i'm suspecting i have a slowly worsening attention deficit problem) as i once did, i hope that i'm here for a long time and have many more names to add to my list.

I was trying to count back the other day to when I started up on the site. I've seen a few crashes since then, and a few upgrades as well. It's fun go sit back and think about all the friends you've made on this site. Larien and I were dropping names the other day of players long since gone. Good times. All I can say is that the last 8 or so years that I've spent on the site has been time well wasted. I remember mom yelling at me that it was 3 in the morning and I had to go to bed, but I didn't want to because I would get lost in a thread because every one was still up posting with out me. It was the first thing I checked in the morning when I got up, after school when I came home, and it was the last thing I looked at before going to bed... It's no wonder my GPA wasn't where mom wanted it to be...

I've been a part of this site since I was 19... I'm nearing 26 now... and though I have gone MIA quite a few times, I find myself always returning. It is my outlet when I am in need of one. My recent absence was of my own doing as well as finances. I am working two jobs and only find time to eat and sleep in between the other. My husband has lacked my attention and has found solace in microwavable food and now I am leaving my night job to a couple evenings a week so I may spend more time with him and attend school so I can give my husband and I a better future.

Another reason for why I left was that I wanted to store my creative energy and possibly begin writing what has been stuck in my brain for the last four years. But alas, it did not work as well as I had planned. DKD is my creative outlet and when my brain fills to exploding with the need of release I find myself back here.

Or maybe it could be the possibility that our wonderful Ms Larien is a bit peeved with me!

I'm pretty sure it was early 2001 when i started (i was in college, but it was second semester, first semester i hadn't gotten into D&D which is how i found this site) I remember typing up posts in the University library and then suffering at home during the summer with dial up, taking 5 minutes just to load a darn page, then fall came, 9/11 happened, Ralenok (how many remember him?) was killed in a car crash , and the site crashed almost simultaneously. September '01 wasn't nice to this site. The only worse occurance was the disney invasion. i don't really remember when that was, but it was worse than shoutbox spamming and Cain's spelling combined. (actually cain's spelling has gotten a lot better, but wow, it was bad when he first joined)

i miss users like supi and aaron. you have to admit they were amusing. things like the great disney invasion (don't ask) are fond memories. i don't want to see DKD go away but eventually like all good things it must come to an end. but hopefully not for many generations to come.

The great disney invasion?

O.o i must say, you have sparked my interest.....if you want to elaborate, that would be dandy.

either i don't remember it, or it was before my time And hopefully DKD will be around long enough for me to empty my brain of creative ideas.....

Oh the days of dial up. My family was still on dial up when I started posting. It was a pain in the butt....I was so glad when we switched to high speed. Made life so much less complicated.

Disney Invasion: somewhere between the years of 2001 and 2003. You know how some (espeacially the early teens) girls sometimes get "stupid giggle silly" (i'm not sure what the medical term for it is) where they seem to think poking eachother and saying inane things are collapse on the floor funny? Basically a few such girls got it in there heads to make a slew of disney named characters (snow white, cinderella, i don't realy remember specifics) and prolifically posted (that means they did it alot) innane, stupid, not-helpful-to-any-sort-of-storyline things. It started with one or two of them doing dumb things. Then there were half a dozen stupid disney characters derailing threads and posting unbearable garbage. It was horrible. i think we actaully had to make rules against them posting as disney characters.

I think one of them was tarsha.

I miss Rubin/Puck and Dedman Walkin the most (and corlaan and morty, but they've been gone for less time, and morty might even return some day....)
