Default The LRA & "Invisible Children"

Sometimes I just need to vent.

The situation in Uganda makes me really, really, really angry.

If you click here, you can watch a video about the "Lord's Resistance Army" and Joseph Kony. (Warning - it's about 30 mins long and is quite depressing.) What's going on there is horrific. Absolutely horrific.

I feel like a loser because there's nothing I can do to help at the moment. I'd do their "Rescue" thing, but I can't make the trip to the nearest rally. I'd donate, but they don't take PayPal without a credit card. I'm trying to think of something, but I'm kinda stuck at the moment. If anyone has any ideas of ways they've helped out, please let me know.

Basically, I'm trying to spread awareness. (I felt a little guilty about taking the link out of my siggy, which is part of the reason I posted this thread.) I'm wondering why the heck our government isn't doing anything to support these people. Everything seems to be a "crisis" in the USA - healthcare, education, etc. That doesn't make sense to me, when there's a real crisis going on in Uganda and other countries.

*sigh* I feel better having shared my frustration with you all. Again, if any of you have suggestions (because I know schools have done fundraisers, etc. for these kids), please let me know. I do want to help instead of just complaining.

Well you know what I do when I have nothing else to fall on, Kale.

Honestly, I agree with you; the US is very petty, if we think that the worst that can happen to us is an increase in the unemployment line. We need to get ourselves together and learn to take care of each other, though, before we can take care of the rest of the world. It's kind of like how someone who doesn't know how to love themself will never really be able to be in a stable relationship.

I know that doesn't sound right, but seriously, this country needs to learn how to help others in need. It shouldn't be our government's job to tell us to go out and care for each other. It should just be a given. It doesn't take a lot.

**Growls** I'm there with you.

Amen to that. But I do wish that people in office would quit putting so much emphasis on our petty problems and stop, if just for a brief moment...long enough for someone to point to Uganda and say, "Hey, look over here. Sure, we've got issues of our own, but some people have it a lot worse."

But of course, being the non-politically-inclined individual I am, I agree when you say we should be able to solve those kind of problems on our own. It seems to me like there are so many people who are obsessed with what goes on in office that if, say, that Obama guy were to mention the situation in Uganda it'd get some people moving. (I don't think he will, though.)

I guess that's one reason I'm glad the people in aforementioned website are putting together this "Rescue" project. It'll really get the word out, if nothing else. *sighs longingly* I wish I could go, but there's no way. I emailed the IC people to see if I could put together a smaller rally and still have it be legit, but they haven't responded...weeks later. Pshaw. :P

Well the main way to be able to help others is to help ourelves, to put us in a position to help others. The problem with that is many lose their way and are consumed with just the advancement of self and start to care less of others. That is how it is for America. We do help out in South America and impoverished areas of Africa and Asia. The reason we do so is not for a better living situation, it is so that we can make some political ties or gain some new cash crop.
