Default By Order of the King

Background (actual campaign to begin in a bit when Nubz, Corlaan and any others get their chars more or less finished):

The Great Castle Grey, towering over the wilden plains, backed up against a range of forbidding mountains, it is the heart of the Grey Court, Rule over by King Jarl Oathswin. The king is a grey skinned half giant (only 9 or so feet tall) and has reigned the grey court for hundreds of years since his grandfather, a true giant, left the mortal realms and joined the saints in ascension. The grey court is a powerful Kingdom whose domain spans worlds and good chunk of both celestial and abysmal worlds. Its purpose is to both support and foil the causes of all others. Good, evil, law, chaos all can find a home and an enemy within the court. King Jarl has called to him the greatest of warriors, preists and scholars to him to strengthen the reach of his power, and keep those within his reach safe and productive. You (whoever you are) are a memeber of the court, maybe newly arrived, maybe you inherited the position from your father or mother or mentor. Your motives for serving and obeying King Jarl are your own, but your loyalty is expected to some degree. As part of your duties to the crown you have been sent to the monasary of Kilgorn Sharl, a mighty stone giant paladin who vanquished an eldar Wyrm (big powerful dragon) by collapsing an entire mountain on both of them. Kilgorn has been raised to sainthood and his mortal remains are kept in the monastary for pilgrims to visit, as they are said to have healing powers (and they do). All this happened maybe 40 years ago, so the battle between giant and dragon is still strong in the minds of people. Five weeks ago a half-succubus half-angel paladin went to the monastary. Officially her mission was a simple formal visit to represent the grey court at a holy festival, but that was not the entire story. King jarl had recieved reports that dragon-like activity had been seen again in the area, and since the monastary is very close to grey court control merchant routes, it was import to access the situation for threat. The paladin, Elucidia, made it to the monastary and comunicated with her superiors via scrying her arrival and that she would be searching a serie of aqueducts that flow form the dwarven mountains all the way down to the monastary. She hasn't been heard from. Of course, when one knight falls, you send in more. and so you (wether or not you're a knight) have been sent to the Monastary to investigate. You've arrived and are staying at the hostel attached where pilgrims stay. It has decent, yet simple, service good food, reasonable drink. You are currently awaiting the arrival of everyone else. except for the last person. You aren't there yet. We're waiting for you.......

(okay, game is on, right now i'm assuming nubZ, cain and DC are in, but i know that times are crazy so if you don't post, you'll just get dragged along unitl some action starts, then its important for some in put.)

The three of you that are present at the Hostel are currently eating a nice meal made by the dwarven Host, a retired dungeoneer turned monk in the twilight years of his rather long life. He's a good source of stories and information. it seems that he's had to keep guard over his store house the last couple of months as goblin raids have increased greatly over the last few months so that anything not within the monastary wall isn't safe. Its believed the goblins live in the opening of the aquaduct, using it as a daytime refuge. as such water flowing from that aquaduct is undrinkably goblin flavored, meaning that the priest must purify the well daily with spells. Other then that, he offers you a taste of his special brew at a discount price, though he refuses to say precisly what it is....

Gaaz was only eating absent mindedly, the majority of his attention was on a semi-new hankerchief, which he seemed to be makeing a complex diagram of some cloakwork contraption. the diagram almost resembled a large barrel with four legs but with small arms and tubes sticking out of it. The notes around it were in various languages often changing alphabets mid word, exept a long stream of words at the top that seemed the only legible part of the paper.

Indulging himself in his meal of apples and squirrel, Rahzar pays little mind to his companions. They are a humourous sort but not his type of creature. He would rather greatly enjoy being out in the open night air than sitting in this hostel, but so is the cost of service. Every now and than one of his wings would twitch, just a sign of wanting to be spread with the crisp air flowing through them.

He denies the dwarven drink and settles with the purified water. Distgusting creatures, they should just be killed off. Though their foul blood would probly need more than a priest to clense.

Catching a glimpse at one of his companions activites he remarks, "How do you plan on catching these skum you plan on frying?"

Bleys sits off to one side of the room, close to all exits but with his back to none.

(its the noonday meal, so you've got plenty of time to do things left in the day, but as long as you keep talking, i've got really nothing to add to the blatant adventure hook in my previous post...so converse as long as you like, i won't step in until you guys start taking action)

Gaaz grinned.
"Thats the beuty of the F.L.U.F.F.I.E.S.! They are part siege weapon, part automated transportation! Still not sure on how to power the cloakwork though... a pedal crank may be tireing, steam engion might work but they are big and bulky, maybe some sort of system remonisent to a golem..but that might cause it to develop a mind of its own and people don't seem to like it when your inventions break out of the workshop and go ravaging around town...hmm maybe great uncle Bingo's brilliont long burning fire fuel engion...too bad he and the prototype were lost in that accident. The mayor made his poor wife pay to repair the two city blocks caught in the explosion too... aparently rathar then cause a prolonged explosion like he ment it to, his new alchemical fuel all burned at one time..."

" Perhaps an internal system of gears powered by some biped which will turn a rank inturn turning the gears. All you would have to do is reposition the crank to turn a different set of gears changing the system from one of transportation to one of frying?"

Rahzar continues on the conversation, chooseing sometype of intellectual stimulat over the the sun outside. Oh if only it were twilight with the cool evening air!!

Becoming restless, cramped in this coop of an inn, Rahzar stands up suddenly nearly knocking his chair down in the process. Exiting the inn he begins to climb its walls and then jumps so he can glide through the midday air.

Unable to remain still for such a prolonged hour, he decides to just wait outside for a while until the remainder of their party shows.

Bleys stands, walking over to the now-vacant seat, standing it back up and pushing it into the table. Those nearby can overhear him muttering the word 'creatures'...

But whatever other "polite" comments were attached to it couldn't quite be heard.

Unable to sit still - but somewhat more civil about it, he approaches the gracious dwarven host. "Good ser, a quench of your finest brew, and a moment of your time..." Paying the cost without comment, he continues, "What is the word on the creature-folk infesting the waterways? I hear talk among the commoners of Goblins, but little is spoken. From experience, even the greatest kingdoms can fall victim to such as these, but rarely will the problem persist unless they answer to... a higher power."

Dropping his voice low, he continues, "What, pray thee tell, is their Master? The Puppeteer, from whose strings these wretched vermin dance?"

(OOC: someone has to get it going)
