Möttull looks around quickly before cleaning his sword on a dead man`s pantleg. "This is far from over, Stranger. Arm yourself for battle," he says, pointing to the fallen men, "as they need these possessions no more."

Möttull deals with this as only a man who devotes his LIFE to battle could - just another day. If the man seems about to run for his life, he will introduce himself and ask the other's name to break the ice. Then, he will go through the fallen men's gear himself and see if there is anything for the man to better equip himself. If not, into the Bag of Holding everything goes...

Warrior, Mercenary... the man still breathing at the end of the day can call himself whatever helps him sleep at night. One way or the other, Möttull knows no reason not to stand by this stranger's side. Whether he's lucky or good, both have their place on the battlefield.

In hindsight, he tries to remember any facts about the corpselike creatures. {Untrained Knowledge?}

Mynic willl hold onto the bag of food in case something else comes along. He changes shape to look like an older human, and continues on his way through the pass to Castle Bleak. Strange that an orc patrol would be coming from the direction of the castle. One would think with this area being so dangerous that there would be guards discouraging hostile creatures from wandering this close. Though what Mynic needs to do is learn how to speak orc so he can have more fun. If orcs can just wander around these parts, no teling what else is about.

Mynic: You're still in the mountains enough that orcs aren't so unlikely. As you make your way out of the pass into the open valley you see lots of orc heads on poles, dead goblins in cages, and other warnings to greenskins that this area is in fact fairly well patrolled. In fact, its only a few moments before five men on horseback come thundering into view and head towards you. They slow as they approach recognizing you as human, and while ready for anything, seem inclined towards talking. "Ho there, Give name and purpose." Calls the first man in a strong voice.

Möttul: Your sword is in fact clean to begin with, any residue on it faded into mist, along with the bodies of the monsters you slew. (knowledge check religion: medium success) You figure they were effectively made from mist and magic, but otherwise functioned as zombies/skeletons. The corpselike creature was as zombieish as anything except it looked like it was all made from the same white material. You suspect it was just as susceptible to holy damage (radiant) and critical hits as any other zombie would be.

The still living man tells you his name is Max when you introduce yourself. He seems very afraid, but your introduction will probably keep him from running off.

The militia men have mostly clubs and pitchforks, nothing really of value, and max seems horror struck to take things from his dead friends. He has a pitchfork that will work as well as anything lying around here.

The sounds around you (aside from the still ringing temple bells) turn to cries for help for wounded and such. There is the sound of panic here and there. You're currently off the main streets right now, it seems Max's party was more adventurous, or perhaps one of them owned a business around here. The majority of the sounds nearby seems to be coming from the east, where you recall two main roads meet.

Mynic hobbles toward the five men, playing on the old appearance he has.
" I am Broncoannus. I thought the Castle Bleak would be able to provide shelter and safety.", he looks down and away as if weak, scared even of being turned away at coming so far.

" Is it true? Is Castle Bleak the last refuge against the plague of these lands?" Mynic pushes his chances. Humans are the social type, they are easily distracted by conversation.

Pending on how the conversation goes, Mynic tries to get either an escort to Castle Bleak, or directions of a safe path to take to get there. Hopefully they dont inquire too much into how an old man can make it through such a dangerous path unharmed. If they do ask those sorts of questions Mynic simple replies that the path was cleared and that he had seen traces but they looked like creatures had left in a hurry. Which makes him more eager to reach Castle Bleak before this unknown danger comes.

((((Ill do three 1d20 rolls each post in case you need one as a check. If theyre not needed for anything just ignore them, like boredom rolls waiting for a turn))))))

"Come quickly," Möttul advises, "others need our help."

Heading to the east at a light jog, he confers with Max to see if he is wounded (and if so donates a healing potion), and asks what brought him from the safety of his home on a night like this. Möttul tries to steer the conversation towards answers, but if Max seems adverse to talking he will not press the matter.

((OOC: Did Max gain a level?))

Möttul: (no, max didn't do anything but watch his team mates die, and you kill everything, you got all the xp for the fight. As he tags along with you he might eventually)

Max is shaken, but unwounded. "We were just keeping the shops safe from vandals" he says indicating the nearby buildings with mercantile signs indicating a butcher, a baker, and possibly a maker of candles. "we thought numbers would be on our side, and that we'd just run them off"

You head east and enter a large crossroads that during the day is no doubt packed with busy people. Now its scattered with survivors and casualties, about 8 living and 20 dead, and 5 or dangerously injured, which the living are trying to (and calling for) help. They are pretty much all men, looking a bit like Max, but there are Watchmen bodies scattered about as well, and two living watch men are trying to stop the bleeding on a still living, but slipping fast, commander.

Mynic: The First man answers you; "It is safer than any other place you might find in these lands, though you would been better served by fleeing the other direction in the mountains. There is no place that is truely a refuge anymore." His voice is bleak and battle weary. "I have not the men to escort you anywhere, but if you follow the road (he points to a distant wooden post, to far to really examine, but probably a road sign) it will lead you to our outpost. From there you can likely get a ride with the supply wagons or a messenger." He doesn't questions your presences and it takes a passive insight of 10 to see that he's seen more than his fair share of wandering survivors, you're just another sad face in an endless trickle.

Möttul does not hesitate, already reaching into his pack; the magic of the bag allows the potion to be at his fingertips at a thought. "Drink, Mann, to health and hearth." Hopefully the soldiers will not try to keep him from the commander, because few can; without waiting to see its effect, he speaks a brief "You may buy me a drink when this is through, but others need me," before producing a small bundle containing bandages and seeing to the wounded.

Not that he wishes to hoard his goods, but unless the others seem as dreadfully close to death as the one man, he will let his own talents serve the purpose. Those potions will be important to him soon enough, at this rate. "Max, come... your attention is here, now. The time to remember old friends is when warm and safe by the fire - and that is not yet. Help now, and we shall see that good men get their respects after."

Keep his mind busy, so he doesn't have time to go into shock.

Mynic takes note of the individuals appearances before moving along. Thanking them for their selfless service Mynic parts their company. He moves quickly, like one who has some renewed motivation. The kind that you get on a Friday midday when you realize the refuge of the weekend is a few hours away. He keeps the human guise for now as he travels to the road and then to the outpost.
Despite the recent patrol Mynic stays alert for any unfriendly creatures that would inhabit the area. A funny thought passes his mind if the human and the orc patrol from earlier cross paths. If the orcs realized the dagger missing and thought to look for the dimwitted orc who traded it, running into the humans instead. As long as Mynic is not in the middle it is very amusing.

Mottul: The guards accept the potion and feed it to the dying commander, its effects are obvious and the man regains lucidity quickly, though he is still wounded. Max aids you as often as possible, and you administer aid as much as you can, you suspect no one else will die thanks in no small part to you. The people, especially the watchmen, are impressed by your actions, you've made friends today. As you finish up your medic duty you hear a clamour coming from down the road. Quickly a rider approaches, yelling "Gather the dead, they must receive holy rites, let no one who died not be gathered, the priests will come! Gather the dead, they must receive holy rights, let no one who died not be gathered, the priest will come!...(repeat)" (religion check: 18) You think this is out of sorts, priest are seldom in such a hurry to administer holy rites, its important but not urgent. Holy rites consecrate the corpse to keep it from being defiled after death.....

Mynic: The road is easy to follow and its pretty barren, signposts tell you the way but other than that there is little but a few scrubby trees and knee high grass. but you stay very wary (perception:23) Visibility is quite far, and you see the outpost when its still very far away. its a wooden stockade. Its still maybe a mile off too far to make any detailed observations, you doubt you're more than a speck to them. You not a rustle in the grass, quite small but enough to strongly suspect there are three somethings in the grass, two on your left, and one on your right. You know their locations and you can vaguely make out some crouched creatures blending in with the grass very much in "ambush" stances. (they're each about 20 ft away, making a triangle with you at the center)....

Hmm... Mynic continues walking along the path. He stays aware of the "ambushers" but does not make any moves to make them aware they were noticed. Upholding the old man act has to be a main focus of the facade.

If they decide to attack, then mynic will draw/ throw the dagger at the one in front (igniting it before releasing). After that he will draw his sword to face who ever charges at him (defense).

If they do not attack, then he continues on his way. They could be ruffians or merely a defense for the outpost. Regardless, Mynic does not want to provoke any unwanted hostility. It takes away from the game.

(((First those are the worst dice Ive ever rolled....second, just watched Darkman so am glad to have a doppelganger.)))
