Lying Eyes

[Gemma Ward]

Waves rocked back and forth against the rugged shore. The rocks stood out of the water, revealing massive basalt cliffs. Very few trees had remained standing over the years in the violent environment.

Gemma stood looking out to the water. The wind tore and ripped at her face and clothes. Her face was weathered beyond her years. Her brown hair was wet and ragged from the mist thrown up by the salt water.
Her voice could be heard flowing across the surface of the water, singing a song unknown to the villages in this land:

"Bitter Secrets, tales untold
Hearts have been broken, stolen and sold
Love's never lost, it was never born
All that remains are lives that are torn

"Darkness Covers and masks the disguised
Tales are spread, all rumors and lies
tears never fell so hard before
though that was long before the war."

The song continued fading in and out as the sound of the waves did the same.

[Cain]

Alphonce sat in a tree a ways of quietly listening.
"...Not a very happy song. *creek*...that's never a good sound."
*Creeeeee-crash*
Al was barily able to jump from the tree before it crashed down, apparently not set well enough for his weight.
"Right then...note to self, stay out of the trees..."

Gemma turned quickly startled by the noise. Her song ceased mid line. "It's not a happy song for this isn't a happy place." The words rang true. This area was full of sights of destruction. She tried to pull some of her hair out of her face but was unsuccessful as the water only made it cling to her pale cheeks more.

[Cain]

"Er...right...uh, what exacly happened here to make it so...unhappy..."
Where water from the storm his him he seemed to be steaming. He began working off braches from the fallen tree and placeing them together.

Catalina had stood behind the one of few trees left in the area. The nature and wildlife had long been driven away. It was at this moment she pictured the flames...the scurrying of the animals...the cries...the bloodshed. She forsaw the events that were to come and her warnings fell on deaf ears.

Catalina looked at the girl. SHe looked disheveled, and the song she sang..How did she know...

Behind the single tree facing the back of Gemma she appeared. A deep blood red cloak was thrown over her. THe hood revealing long blonde hair...and deep brown skin. She looked aged in a way, hard, as if she had seen a life of torture...a life of bloodshed

"Destiny...fate...pick your poison.." She said in acknowledgment of the quesiton proposed.

She continued to speak...in a more moderate tone

"There was a future to be had
Though none would know
Destiny the Seer had shown
Fate would come that dreadful night
And damage all that was built in spite."

Catalina said this in a moderate almost spooky tone as she stared at the ground under her feet.

Gemma nodded in response. The seer's words brought back horrifying images. Too much blood had been shed, too many lives lost. If one was to look closely at the basalt cliffs, they might see a glint of red. Many call it a trick of the light, but those who lived in the villages knew better. They had lived through the fires and the pillaging. The war was not a topic they liked to remember.

Catalina took a step foward and without raising her head peered up with her eyes at Gemma...she saw something she thought for a moment. SOmehting in her eyes, she was different...

"How do you know the untold stories. They are not spoken of in the villages, and you sang it perfectly."

She could not be a survivor..a child at the time grown now haunted by the decisions of her elders.

"I uh....I don't know." Gemma replied. "I heard the song in my head and sang it."

That much was true. She wasn't a survivor. She had only just arrived here. She had a talent that most related to story telling. This talent gifted her with telling stories in such a way that had never been heard before. This was another such case. The song had called to her. Pulled at her tongue. So she sang it.

"Do you know what happen here? I've only seen glimpses through the images of the song."

Catalina squinted and looked at the girl for a moment. She did not look like the girl in her vision. She had forseen a being coming...and re-opening a past once closed...yet she had not heard the song or seen a girl of this appearance.


"Why the song you sing child is what happened hear. Deceit and lies...love once gone, tears of sorrow. Man's lust for power and revenge is deadly. And the consequences hurt some of the most innocent beings around us..."

Her voice faded off as she looked into the sky/

"But why would such a sad story want to be retold? It seems odd to me that with such heartbreaking injuries to these people, the story would want to bury itself; stay hidden until a much later time...far in the future." Gemma questioned.

The land seemed as though the destruction was recent, though appearances can be deceiving.
