Footsteps in the Night

I can feel the whisper in the wind as I walk. It talks about nothing, a language I cannot decipher. The road sparkles with the newly falling snow. It's wetting my hair and makes it clump together. I must of spent an hour on it just to have it ruined.
Just another day in my world I guess- Full of nothing but people and people being bored that only makes me bored. If something ever happend in this little town of Latin, I'd be surprized by all means. The population- about nothing. Maybe 460? If it's possible that is. Everyone knows everyone and not a secret can be hid by the gossipers.

The world of Provectus was as rotted as always, bathed in a dull blue from the full moon showing it's face for once. My hands went for a sword which wasn't there anymore. . .not since I had dropped it off at my living quarters. It was different living here then my home. The moon was something I had never seen so cleary. When ever I had seen it from home it had been during the fall of the sun at dusk. . .which was at all times happening. Of course, my moon was never whole. But an amazing sight anyways. . .

Oh yeah, by-the-way, My Name... It's Starr-Lynn... but everyone calls me Starr. Like it ever really made a difference in my life what people called me. I'm the quiet, non-sociable girl who sat in the back in everything. Wheither it was school, of a bus, or Church, which I regret taking, I was always a Non-believer of the Lord making my life the way I wanted it like the Preacher said He would. And what do you know, It happend... and still happens like the way I thought of it as.

Falling onto bed after a failed mission seemed all I did lately as I did this night. I took off my over shirt with all my pins saying I was the Commander's second in command,yet nothing now a days told of me. It old of a man who followed orders and was good at his job but of the man who was an actual person. . .I was so far in I didn't even remember my name anymore. . .all I knew was I was called Captain now, and if I remember . . my last name was Soldier. . . because of my father. . .

The thoughts of what people kept thinking of me always ran through my head, and faster and faster they went whenever my mind seemed to overload. Latin was a place that never had action and I seemed to be the only mess up in the entire town. There's nothing special, nothing at all. Maybe one day, I'll go to a new place, have a new name and a new life and maybe, just maybe, life would be just a tiny be better for me.... and the rest of this dump- they would be better off as well, but my name- it would be a legacy to then. "Starr, the girl of nothingness" and "Starr, the only imperfection in this joint". That's the best people probably thought of me, anyways...
If only I could really make a name for myself. Be a doctor or something that's atleast a bit usefull to this area.

The sun arose slightly finally so I began my trek to the barracks. . .It never was actually sunny here anymore. . . it was either dusk in some areas, sunrise barely peeping over the earth. . .or night.
Others were up before me and walking to their stations. I looked at my boots to upset to see anything else. Some saluted me others hurried on so they wouldn't have to. I'll have to give him the report.

I turned around in the road, making a circle as my leather boots slid against the pavement. I didn't walk to far, but I was too tired to go on further and still have to come back home. Snow came down faster and it felt like ice against my exposed skin when my pace grew.
I reached my drive way and home was just steps away.
I slowed down when I was near the door. I turned the icy knob , it stuck a little and my breath began to fog up the glass of the window. My body felt heavy as I walked to my room. Only seconds and my body would be dead asleep. I fell on my bed, eyes closing before I hit the messy covers that drooped onto it, my boots still on...

Entering my work area I saw the subject I was told to keep a watch over. I smiled as I saw she still had her feet coverings on while she was asleep. Over the years I had grown attached, which of course was against the rules but she was the closest person to me. As her dreams flashed before I saw something. Something that shouldn't have been there.
"What the?" I checked my magics on her to make sure they were working. "No." I whsipered.
"Captian?"
"Yes?"
"The commander wants to see you." I gulped and followed.

"Sir?"
"Yes?" My commander answers me.
"She's been in contact with. . . Him. . ."
"You mean to say that you have been visiting her in her dreams and yet the spells you have been weaving, the wards . . .and He still found her?" I cannot speak. My head lowers and my hair moves in front of my face."Maybe I was wrong . . maybe you aren't ready for this. . ."
"Father. . ." I stop and correct myself by standing at attention. "Commander. . .I'm ready sir. . . I. . ." I was afraid of saying it but I didn't know what else to do. "Permission to visit. . .either that or find some way for her to come here. I believe Commander . . .it's the only way sir."
Father turns in his seat towards me, the sunset washes his face a soft red, showing scars from previous battles. A smiles flares for a second.
"I give you permission for both, vist the world of New. . .find out how He was able to escape you. Then find a way to bring her here."
"Yes sir. . ." I bow and walk to the door.
"O. . .and Captain?" I turn around. "Remember where you are. . .this isn't home.
"I'm sorry sir. . . it won't happen again. . ." I leave to prepare with quick steps and shuttering breaths.

My dreams.... The only things I felt I had.... My "friends" always told me of theirs that are about unicorns or their dream boys and all that crap. Mine.... they were different.... Mine were about war, and men fighting and about a man who wanted to attack, like a cat seeing its prey... a mouse I was and the preitor he was...
When those girls asked me of mine dreams, all I said to them was that I don't get them...
Friends.... how pitiful for me to really think that I had some.... to honestly believe that people liked me.... I laugh at my stupity inside....

Walking out of the building I went to the outskirts of the barracks which now was going to be left behind. See. . .sometime ago people figured out there was another world besides the one we lived in. Many left, but some stayed. The old world was then known as Provectus, the new was known after the city that the two worlds were connected in, Latin, the language of both worlds at the time. Provectus kept the language but the other didn't.
Throwing up my arms I took in the tone and closed my eyes to find the Magics within me. Sparks flew from me to pieces in the air as a portal was made. Next I was standing in the dreams of the girl. "Hey!" I shouted. "Wake up!"
