In Search of the Light
I'm usually a nice person unless you wake me up, which is why I was going to kill the creature that was scrathing my front door at three in the frigging morning. I slipped on my robe, ripped open my bedroom door, and stormed down the stairs muttering to myself why whatever was at my house had to choose my house.

I stood in the rain, my body feeling no cold from the falling sky water. The animal walked to the door of the house, the one I was told to watch. My head titled from curiosity. I fixed my mask in place and could see the white aura surrounding the creature.
"That is no normal cat." I whispered to myself and the wind. "Angel."
I turned around, because I needed to speak to someone about this. It was not good news.

To make things worse I managed to slip and fall on the last few stairs. "Whatever you are, you're dying!" I screamed. I cupped my mouth realizing that the light from the TV in the living room was on. "Crap." I whispered. I looked in to see Liz sprawled out on the couch sleeping like a baby. I mentally breathed a sigh of relief thinking how unfair it would've been to her to be woken up as well. I walked over to the on going scratching at the door and tried my best to open it without the creaking that only seems to occur when you don't want someone to wake up. With the scratching finally gone I look down to find the culprit. A white, rain drenched cat.

I found my way back to the house, my lord by my side. "And you saw it?" He asked. This human body was not used to the dog beside me, speaking. I nodded and knelt down beside him.
"My eyes would not lie, would they master?"
"It is easy to decieve, but why would an angel want you to know it was here?" He looked at me. "No, no this was real. Good work Sam." He licked my face and I patted his head.
"Thank you master, I'll keep my watch then." He nodded and trotted off to disapear into the bushes.

A cat. A cat in the middle of a down pour I thought to myself. Being the ever so kind-hearted person I am (if you ignore the fact I said I was going to kill it) I picked it up so it wouldn't have to spend the night in the rain. I went into the kitchen and flipped on the light and placed the cat on the island in the middle of the kitchen and took a good look at it. It turns out the "it" is actually a "him" There were spots of mud and what I think were partially washed off patches of blood. "Where have you been tonight, kitty?" I asked him. I wasn't expecting anything, but he meowed a few times and stared into my eyes as if I'd understand him. "Well, I'm sorry to hear that." I replied to the cat just to amuse myself by giving him a response. Again he meowed and just stared at me with his deep blue eyes. "You're a weird cat."

I sighed in thie human form of mine and retreated to his subconcious, where I could easily find my way back, so now I could return to hell.
The dropping sensation hit me and I saw my surroundings:
The burning pits, those being "clensed", the isles of gluttony where the dogs of hell roamed free to eat stomachs for all eternity, the room of lust, where your worst nightmare was happening everynight, and the spire off in the distance. The King, our lord and savior would be there. It was not my destination, mine would not even be close. But, I do not know a demon alive that did not bask in its glory.
"Samhain!" someone shouted. I turned towards them to see Mastema.
"Mas." I bowed my head for respect towards the demon who ever came close to the great gates almost every day. "Just the demon I wanted to see. I have a soul for you to tempt." I smiled at my new idea, and so did Mastema. For he loved a challenge.

"Well, cat. Since I can't send you out all on your own and you seem to have no form of identification, I'm gonna keep you." I said smiling. The cat seemed to like my suggestion and nuzzled against me in turn mudding up my robe. "Thanks for that." I said dully. "Let's clean you up so you don't do that to my whole house, but first how about a name?" He pranced around the counter top thrilled with my idea.
"Well then, what about Gabriel" I said suddenly. I was baffled as to why I even thought of it, but somehow I knew that was his name.
He jumped at me and purred indicating he loved the idea.
"Well, then" I said "I guess that's it. Nice to meet you, Gabriel." I said still confused.
I held out my hand to him as you would meeting someone for the first time, but again I wasn't thinking he would do anything. To my shock he lifted his muddy white paw and slipped it in between my open hand and meowed. Distracted by the sudden gesture I hadn't noticed that my roommate was standing in the kitchen and of course I jumped when she spoke.
"Sarah." she said wiping the sleep from her eyes. "Why is there a dirty bloody cat in my kitchen?"
While trying to keep my heart in my chest I explained what happened.

Mastema and I found the house easily enough. I jumped back into the control seat of my host and he found one close by. we watched the house and I pointed out who it was I needed to watch and he thought of his own plan, his head tilted sideways. "Should be easy enough." He chuckled and dropped into his new body and wormed his own thoughts in her mind.
Who cares about a little cat like that? We don't need one. It'll just get in the way. We should throw it outside or give it to a chinese restaurant.
