She sighed for a moment not sure whether it was a lie or not and if it had not been for Fanny paging her, this being known by the red light flashing on her phone, she would have pressed the matter further.
"I will need a return call today the lastest. She knows where to reach me..."
Without the giving her the opportunity of a goodbye she hung up the phone and clicked over to her page line.
"Yes Fanny.."
F: "You have an urgent call on line 3."
"Thank you.."
She answered it.

C:"She said to call her back today."
"Thank you Carolyn. I'm almost done with this call."
Alexi took off her jacket as she continued to talk to the detective on a case. Actually it was the case Addison was calling her on.
"If the evidence points to him then why am I putting off the court date?"
She was silent for a few moments.
"WHAT?"
Her voice held a slight hint of anger.
"What do you mean she's gone? I thought she was in protective custody so he wouldn't get to her? What do you mean he called her from prison? Damn it. If he gets off on murder......I'll call the judge and schedule a hearing. Get me those phone logs. I don't allow intimidation of my witnesses by anyone."
She slammed the reciever down and picked it up again. She quickly dialed Addison's number, her temper mounting.

On the line had been one of her insiders and sources. Apparently, the DA figured out her witness was missing not long ago. She sat bacj in her chair, with no witness all the DA would have to go on would be the evidence which she could claim was circumstantial on many different levels. But why was the witness missing....how....
She called the Paradigm City Pen. and requested to speak to her client Mr.Dan Walters. He picked up the phone answering in a gruff harsh tone.
D: "Yes...."
"Dan its me Addison. Listen I need to speak to about something."
D: "I know don't worry the DA won't have a witness to testify against me..."
"Wait, Dan what are you talking about?"
D: "Sh..keep it down. I spoke to her last night and shes gone. Shes out of town and my boys will make sure she's not found."
Now Addison knew that Dan had not committed the murder. Where as his alibi was full of holes, she had been working day and night on this case and she was gathering substantial evidence to prove it was not Dan. However, Dan taking matters into his own hands could possible ruin her career if not lose them the case. She had to act and act fast.
"Dan phone records of you contacting her.."
D: "Ah, don't worry, done."
"You got rid of the phone records..."
D: "I know what I'm doing. Don't worry just get me my day in court."
"I'm working on it..keep this quiet."
She hung up, being that it was a lawyer client phone call it had not been recorded for the purpose of privacy. She took a quick huff of worry and annoyance...
The red light blinked as she hit it
F: "Addison, the DA is on the phone..."
~Shit, why couldn't she of forgotten to call back this one time.~
She picked up
"Addison speaking..."

"I know you know why I am calling. If I can't make a case for murder against your client because he's done something with my witness......I'll get him for that Addison."
Alexi drummer her fingersnails on her desk in agitation.
"I'll call the judge. His ass is mine one way or another. I won't stand for this."

She kept her voice cool calm and collected with no sign of worry, or say a guilty conscience..she sounded just as she always did
"Of course I know Alexi, I received a call from the judge and then got word. I know that you aren't threatening me or my client..*paused* Don't place blame on me that you can't keep ahold of your witnesses, that responsibility falls on you, just as putting an innocent man behind bars for life falls on your shoulders. Back off Alexi, I've shown you up before and I'll do it again...."

a very skinny, pale, man then walked into alexi's office in a baggy white shirt, baggy blue jeans, and no shoes, with a HUGE sniper rifle strapped to his back. with his hands in his pockets, he calmly walked toward the secretary and her desk, upon reaching it he leaned forward, putting his right elbow on the desk then resting his chin on his hand.
"You wouldn't know where i can find Alexi, would you?"
he followed the question with possibly the most sadistic smile ever seen.

"Don't threaten me Addison. We've both won some and lost some in that courtroom. You get off these sick son of a bitches and get paid for it. I put the bastards in jail where they belong or strapped to chair with a needle in their veins getting justice for their victims. Let's get one thing straight however. We both know this guy is guilty. He's probably going to kill my witness when he finds her. You want to save your ass you'll give me his. Becuase make no mistake this time if I find out you knew she was in danger I'll nail your ass to the wall right along with his."
In true Alexi fashion she slammed the receiver down disconnecting the call. She let out a scream of frustation that couldn't be heard through her sound proof walls.
Carolyn looked at him and gulped.
"Do....do....do you have an appointment sir?"

She heard the frustration in Alexi's voice and agreed that the yelling she had received was well deserved. However, she knew that her client was innocent and time was running out; she wouldn't have much time before the feds began to investigate the witness' disappearance and she was almost postive that Alexi would take a personal look into the current events.
After the phone disconnected Addison let out a sigh. This was not good, and she did not take kindly to some of Alexi's remarks. Being a prosecuting attorney, all Alexi ever saw was the bad in people, what they are at the time. Addison did the opposite; everyone is bad, there is no such thing as a good person in this world, so instead of condemning the person to death she condemned the action. The action was bad, the court process was hard enough. After going through that once they got off they were on strict probation with Addison. Many of her clients who had gotten off, even though she knew they were guilty, changed their lives and made something of themselves. Those that didn't got what they deserved in the end. However, she herself was going to make damn sure everyone gets their second chance, deserving or not.
This case was different though, it is cases like this that caused her many sleepless nights and actually stressed her out. She knew with everything in her that Dan was innocent. Being mixed up with various mob activity and various unsolved crimes she knew his history did not help her in his defense. He loved his wife though, and she kenw he wouldn't hurt her but the guarantee one of his men wouldn't "slip" or make a mistake and kill her was definately a worry
She gathered her things and stepped out.
"Fanny, I am taking a visit down to the pen. Direct any calls from the DA to my cell, and all other calls take a message for."
Fanny nodded as Addison turned and walked out to car. She needed to find out where the witness was and fast

"Oh, I'm afraid not miss, but i'm sure she won't mind"
He started walking towards alexi's office door, until he stopped only to look over his shoulder, at Carolyn.
"after all....she needs what i have to offer.......but for your own good, don't try to stop me, well you can....but imagine what your daughter will think when you don't show up to her recital, due to....unforseen circumstances."
he then chuckled to himself, and opened the door to the office, and after seeing alexi in an obviously furious mood:
"Ah! alexi! after all i've heard about you, it's an honour to finally meet you!"

C:"I'm so sorry ma'am."
Alexi held up a hand to stop Carolyn's stuttering. She looked at the man her eyes narrowing.
~Abby assessment.~
A:~Not a threat.~
She leaned back in her chair and tilted her head.
"Charging into my office is not a good idea sir. Carolyn you may go. Close the door."
THe secretary nodded her head and left, closing the door.
