I Love You Like...

A poem I wrote for my boyfriend of 3+ years after he managed to do something for valentines for me and I didn't do something for him. (Not as bad as it sounds. His birthday is the day before Valentines so his gift on that day kind of doubles.)
But I still felt bad. He doesn't come across as romantic but he really is. Left me chocolate covered strawberries, flowers and a balloon in my car, even though he was initially too sick to walk three steps without puking.

So I wrote him this poem. Yes, it's supposed to be cheesy. Some of the jokes you won't get.

Still haven't gotten around to giving it to him. I'm such an awful girlfriend.



I love you like a bowl of cherries
On a summer day
And I love you like Netflix movies
Or the music that I play

And I love you like espresso shots
In soymilk after work
And I love it when you shut your mouth
And let me be the jerk

I love you like a comic book
That’s only halfway read
And I love you like Panera with
It’s cheesy soups and bread

And I love you like the emo song
On our Flyleaf CD
And I love you like a photograph
With only you and me

And I love you like Waterville
And Denny’s late at night
And I love you like Drama Club
And the plays you didn’t like

And I love you like Nickel Creek
And Castles in the Sand
I love you like Chris on stage
With mandolin in hand

I love you like a marker
On my denim jeans
I love you just Steinbeck
And the pretty stuff he means

I love you like a circle pit
To the tune of ‘Loaded Gun’
And I heart you like cupcakes
When you and Peter run

And I love you like a two year crush
All through middle school
I love you like the boy who proves
He’s not a girl in Courtney’s pool

I love you like Liam Neeson
And like Jonny Depp
I love you like baby pandas
And my Friday paychecks

And I love you like nothing else
In sky or land or sea
I love you like the boy who put
This love inside of me.

Haha, that's my favorite line! Did he like ANY of the plays we were in at all?

I have to get the right chance. I want to leave it in the card I made him (chocolate strawberry drawing on a crazy background) on his desk in Spanish class, but my timing's awful.

And I think the one play he liked you weren't there for; The Importance of Being Ernest. I think it was before he became totally jaded to the whole concept.

I think he's liked all the roles he's done, but he's just kind of an anti-social grouchy-pants and doesn't like having to be around lots of people so often. The practices were too much.
