My Own Road
The road is set before me,
I have yet to set my foot on it.
I am nervous and Young.
The path,
laid down by parents, teachers
and only slightly by dreams,
is one made of stone and dirt,
so it may shift where needed.
Im nervous to follow.
I like my life the way it is.
Mornings by myself,
school with so many people I know barely.
coming home for a quick meal,
work ending a long tiresome day,
maybe a visit to my old home,
a visit to my father,
old friends and young siblings.
But,
I like my life.
I like my patterns.
The wind here on my new path is cold.
But my family stands beside me,
talking about everything all at once,
making me smile,
losing myself with not saying a word.
The one Ill be with
always
takes me by the hand.
She smiles and takes me to my first step of stone.
High school is gone.
Nerves shaking my body,
I am excited and scared.
I take the second step.
The decision for college.
For all of these my family
and some friends
are there.
Even more so, so is she.
As long as these people are with me,
I shall walk my path,
smile on my face with nerves
but ready to take another step.
Seen some,
done little,
experienced nothing.
But. . .
I am 18 and not done yet
