Post A New Campaign

Well given that jt s43 and DungeonMaster were talking about wanting to join a D&D game.

First off there is Larren's 4th ed. game using the sample character sheets wizards provided.

The other option is to start our own game. (and probably have people atleast one person join). In that case I may be able to DM though I warn I am not vary good at DMing text based campaigns (not the best at normal one's either but oh well.)
My question is what edition do you want to play? I have books for 3.5 ed and 4th Ed. Though I am more familiar with (and prefer) 3.5 since I haven't played a full 4th ed campaign yet.

Well i'm in regardless of eddition. If i can keep the 4e 'preview' game going (new players always welcome), i'll also start another 4e campaign in a month or two, possibly reboot the underdark rpg, though probably not the Underdark University. But i would also LOVE!!!!! to play in a game.

Until I have a real life game of V4 with my friends sitting around a table, i won't be confident enough to do one here, so i would jump at the opportunity for a 3.5 campaign... I only have one thing to say about it though... I have always wanted to play a character that I have dreamed would be ideal, but none of the books say it can be done effectively. Mainly because multiclassing rules are a... well yeah. I have always waned to play a Druid/Monk of Obad-hai. I think it would be a fun roleplay experience, as well as a survivable class, and would like to know if we can bend the rules on multiclassing to accomodate it.

I would also like to elaborate on the order that he would be from, as i designed one many years ago just for this character. His order is the Order of Iron Roots, and it is headed by a treant monk (nasty idea, isn't it?). Anyway, the idea behind his character is that he was sent out to find his place in the world, and when his skin is "as tough as the bark of the ironwood tree" he may return and take his place in the natural order. he is Lawful neautral, of course, lawful only to the balance of nature, however, and he holds no regard for the laws of men, nor does he wish to break them, except in an atempt to preserve balance. That is all i will say for now. If you approve so far, I can send a more detailed character background and make whatever adjustments you deem neccesary. Feel free to ask me questions in or out of game, as this character idea has been kicking around in my head for years, and I really badly want to play it.

The idea does sound interesting, though I'm going to hold off on giving a full ok just yet. I can tell you though that if I set it up at a level where you gained wild shape that you would not gain the improved unnarmed damage and flurry of blows while wildshaped.
My reasoning for this is that the damage comes from conditioning and strengthening your body, then learning how to best use your body (and certain weapons) to attack. Wild shape you are gaining a fully different body.
As for flurry, in my mind that is an attack that fully adds in the rest of your body, meaning kicks, elbows, knees. Again this comes from training the body, but change the body and you are only working with the base abilities again.

I believe that I would not use wildshape unless I needed to say... fly over a canyon... or... swin to the bottom of a well to get something. Otherwise, my druidic abilities would be more like use of barkskin and healing. Buffs, entanglement, and healing would be the center of the magic. As a monk, the idea would be to not use my magic unless I have to... (though he would not see buffs as a magic, he would see them more as an extension of his body.) and wildshape is... for lack of a better way to put it, a magical ability. I hope you don't mind if i talk a lot of philosophy in game as well, because... I play my monks as philosophers, and i myself have a druidic outlook on life... so this has been a character I have kicked around in my brain for a long time.

Sounds like an interesting character. I think I'll allow it.

So far I think I have my basic idea for the story line I will be using. This should be interesting.

The basic idea (so far) to what will bring you guys to the town is a fog has started setting in every couple of nights and people are dissapearing, now however the air is becoming charged with negative energy and the dead have started to rise so a call has gone out to adventurers.
Setting-wise it is going to be slightly more advanced like Eberron with a slightly more open view to races. ((Some of the more brutal and troublesome races like the orcs and kobolds would still be shunned a bit.))
I'll probably allow any content from WoC books that is within reason. Just tell me with what and give me a book name and page number so I can look it up and ok it first.

I'm thinking a warlock would be fun, maybe a warlock/rogue for fun's sake, probably with strong faerie connotations.

or a swashbuckler/rogue/warlock with Pirate Faerie connotations......ohhhhhhh

...Hmmm... what should I mak the race... it has to be something with a natural affinity to nature and the wilds. Yuan-ti? That would be interesting, but they're too chaotic... umm... maybe ummm... maybe I'll just go human.
